The average child spends about 32.5 hours a week in school. That time leaves teachers with direct influence in children’s day to day lives. That can be scary for a parent, but there are some educators that go above and beyond and leave their students with a positive impact. A good example of this is Barry White Junior of Ashley Park Pre-K – 8 School.

Mr. White, as his students call him, starts his class every day by giving each student a customized handshake that he creates with each one in the beginning of the year. He not only is taking upon himself to teach his students, but to learn them individually and develop a relationship of trust in which they feel most comfortable learning. The handshakes may seem like a small gesture, but they make the kids excited to go to class in addition to making them feel recognized individually and there’s nothing small about that.
